If you are in the San Francisco area, drop by Edo Salon for Kate Durkin’s art show opening on Friday, September 5. The show will take place from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. Wine and sangria will be served, DJs will be spinning and there will be a bunch of new paintings. Kate’s work will be on display through November 11, 2008.
Everyone cross their fingers and send positive vibes my way because I’m heading for Vegas. I will be away for just a few days and will be back on Tuesday (there will be a few short posts here and there for you while I’m away.) I’m going to meet up with some family who will be coming from Florida and Hawaii and a few who live in Las Vegas. I’m not a gambler but will surely have to pass a slot machine or two, so…
Oh, how I love this message board by Something’s Hiding In Here. This new installation by the amazing Shauna and Stephen can be seen at the Urban Outfitters in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The shop invites artists to make an installation for the windows that face the Institute of Contemporary Art there about every two months. Shauna and Stephen actually built the marquee sign out of wood and were inspired by industrial letter signs, multi colored text, and everyday sayings. “Reality” shows have been taking over for the past couple of years now, right? I mentioned this before, but I currently do not have a television so anything I watch is either rented from my friendly neighborhood video store or online. Now, I’m not proud to say this, but I have peeked at MTV’s “reality” show The Hills. Yeah, I know. I was curious. I’m not sure what the big deal is but either way I can see why there’s an appeal. It’s entertaining in the way that you really cannot believe what is taking place. I mean, what a tough life having all that money, wearing fancy clothing, having perfect hair and makeup and, oh no, not getting along with the girls. And I digress…Here is the version of the show that I enjoy much better…
Hannah Salomon is creating some pretty sophisticated jewelry at just 19 years of age. Her company, Kutuu, is based in North Wales, UK, where she is inspired by nature and primarily uses materials like silver, gold, gemstones and pearls. Hannah’s passion for metalwork is apparent, as her intricate forged pieces in her new “Horizons” collection offer up earthy, organic pieces with lovely detail. In addition to the jewelry, Hannah has also just redesigned her website and screenprinted her businesses cards, information cards and tags that are included with every order.
I have to take a moment and give a little shout out to the Waipi‘o Little League World Series champs. They returned home to Hawaii on Monday night and received a hero’s welcome. Tons of folks headed to the Honolulu International Airport to celebrate the young winners. I had to share this because I am so proud of the keiki back in Honolulu and my cousin is part of the team. He is the older brother of Paliku who I mentioned a couple months ago. Today he will even be signing a little league ball that will be placed in his elementary school’s award case to commemorate the victories of the team. Amazing!
